Where do your find inspiration?
Ever been asked where an idea came from, and had no idea how to answer? The thought just came to you, and try as you might, you can’t find anything to credit it to. Those are perhaps my favorite ideas, the ones that seemingly come out of nowhere.
Whether you consider yourself a creative type or not, you are certainly someone with original ideas! And most likely, the inspiration comes from all parts of your life. Things you see, the people around you, the places you go.....
As for me, I can safely say that a lot of my inspiration comes from living part time in Mexico. For the past 22 years, I have been soaking up ideas and inspiration from all the colors, textures, art, people the scenery…..
Every time I come back, my inspiration gets refreshed. As I write this from my hammock-not trying to rub it in, I swear!- I am surrounded by bright vibrant color.
Red is on of the most common colors in Mexican art and culture. I love to play with mixing shades of similar colors.
I have always loved bead work. It’s simple in materials yet complex in design. It was here in Sayulita, that I taught myself how to bead. As soon as I mastered the Peyote stitch, the beaded heart was one of the first bead designs I created, now it’s a staple of my collection.
The contrasting combination of reds and blues is common in Mexican decor. The blues echo the sea and sky, while the red is reminiscent of the sun and the fiery colors of tropical sunsets or the russet brick colors of the deserts that cover almost half the country.
These blue and red color combinations often find their way into my beaded jewelry designs:)
There is no shortage of inspiration in Sayulita, especially when it comes to colors and textures. It's easy to see how a trip down "Pom Pom Alley" will sneak bright pops of pinks and yellows into your sub conscious.
I just love bright colors.
Wonder if I would I feel the same if I hadn't spent half my life in Mexico? Who knows!
But I am curious, what inspires you? Is there someplace you go to over and over to get inspiration, or that just makes you feel happy? Leave me a comment and share you inspiration sources! I'd love to know!
